I studied a semster in Germany and the difference was amazing. Ghent was just a terrible time maybe I got really unlucky and maybe the summer semester would have been better but yea it could have been a bad year because all my friends could not wait to leave. Walking, riding a bicycle, rowing.. eating, photography. But yes, watch your bicycle it is a local sport or rather national sport to steal bikes and sometimes dump them in the canals... there is not a nicer city than Gent, locals are great and some not locals are learning...
