Entry from: Krakow, Poland Entry Title: “Study Abroad 101: Intro to Eastern Europe” Entry: “Early Friday morning, Adam and I took a 3-hour plane ride to Krakow, Poland. We arrived around 10am and navigated Krakow’s shuttle, train, and tram systems to arrive at our hostel. After a short nap, we went out to explore Krakow. Our first stop was Wawel Royal Castle which was right around the corner from our hostel. The castle is huge! Almost every ruler of Poland has added a building or two to the giant complex. We then walked through church-lined streets on our way to Krakow’s Old Town. Once we got there, I was so excited to see it all decorated for Christmas! My favorite church so far in Europe is on a corner in the Old Town, too. In the pictures, it’s the one with two square towers next to each other. While walking through the city, we noticed cars parked on the sidewalks…like completely on the sidewalks, not just on the curbs…and joked that Chicago’s huge Polish population is why it’s notorious for having such awful drivers. Finally, we enjoyed a traditional Polish meal in a restaurant in Old Town. Tickets are probably going to be at least 100$ on average for each location you go to.
You can do some real research on the web with discount airlines and find better deals, like with ryanair, but they usually have lots of restrictions. It might be cheaper to go by train.
Hotels can be really cheap in some places but you’ll probably pay at least 100$ a night in most places.
