Ottawa, Canada has an annual tulip festival every year because we sheltered Dutch royalty during (one of) the World Wars and they supplied us the tulips to thank us for it (unsure if they still do). It is one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen.

I believe the Semper Augustus was the tulip to end all tulips during the mania… The documentary “The Botany of Desire” devotes nearly half an hour to tulips and the ensuing mania…

Thank you so much for doing this video, John! I’m working on a short story for my fiction writing class, about a black market tulip thief in 1600s Paris. I’ve been doing a lot of research into tulipomania, and my roommate mentioned this video, which I had somehow forgotten about.
What sources did you get your research from?

If I’m thinking of the same streaks of color, there is still a genetically modified version of these tulips that had the mosaic virus called Rembrandt tulips.
