Question by mamalade: How much money would you need to travel South America for 3-4weeks (excluding airfare to get there)? ?
Thinking of Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay (in no particular order)… with a budget/moderate budget..please also include transportation costs to and from these countries. Thanks!!

you can get from Buenos Aires to Montevideo fairly cheaply, but call airlines to see costs between cities. Lanchili is one. I doubt you can find a hotel under $ 50 dollars , however you can negotiate. Some roads are terrible inside the countries. Stay in safe areas in the cities and major tourist sites. Food can vary from cheap $ 5 to anything.There are hostels in some places. enter hostels in each city you want to go to. Since some cities are cheaper due to the economy and some ,like some in Peru, are expensive. Also,call travel agencies (they are not busy now!) Buenos Aires is a wonderful city and if you don’t speak Spanish, go into a fairly nice hotel and ask them for a recommendation….They may even give you a good price, but ask for a manager or assistant manager. Remember the seasons are different there. In USA, summer is hot, SA opposite.Check average weather in places you want to go. If you go to Peru in our winter, you will die of the heat.About the coldest it gets in Lima and Puira is about 60 degrees .The mountains are cooler , of course, but don’t go to any high altitudes if you have any respiratory problems , rapid heartbeat or heart trouble. Check altitudes of where you want to go, very important.
