Travel South America | Travel Guide to Santiago, Chile

www.TheExpeditioner.com http www.facebook.com In November, 2007, I traveled to South America where I visited Argentina and Chile. Watch as I go to Buenos Aires’ massive San Telmo Fair, hit the city’s nightlife, and fly over the Andes into Chile where I explore the capital, Santiago, and the Maipo Valley wine region.

Question by capdaddy81: Whats the best way to travel around in South America?
I will be visiting Peru, Northern Argentina, possibly Buenos Aires and heading up to Brazil. I have about ten days, are there Bus routes that go country to country? About how much am I looking at in bus fare? Any advice?

Answer by CARLOS O
Bus fares are in-expensive, but distances and not well kept routes, makes it colourful, but LONG! And some-time tiring!

You can do an American Airlines/Lan trip (Lan Chile/Lan Argentina/Lan Peru) to fly from (let’s say) DFW to LIM/Lima, then SCL/Santiago Chile, EZE/Buenos Aires and then GRU/Sao Paulo, with return from there to DFW.

Flight in Argentina and Peru are expensive by North-American standards.

Plus you accumulate miles (lots) in at the AAdvantage frequent flyer programme.

Hello! I am thinking of relocating to either Buenos Aires or Santiago. I’m an American expeditioner like you. I have lived in Morocco (2 years) and Tanzania (2 years). I’m most interested in great public transportation (I don’t want to drive), access to beautiful museums, buildings, book stores, cafes. Which city do you think is richest in these things? THANKS!

Thanks for your video on Santiago, it was great! nice to see a foreigner put my country in a positive light.
For anyone who hasn’t been to Chile, it is a beautiful country with friendly people with lots to do, a week would never be enough. I live in Australia and just like you, when i come back and see the Andes on the plane, it not only takes my breath away but makes me happy as I know I’m getting closer to home.

Great music selection for the video. I had the same winery in mind when I visit. I have also been told to head south to Punta Arenas and to visit a national park just north of that city.

I agree with RodrigoXPJets … you couldn’t chose better music for representing this documentary… I really felt you were showing some of the most interesting places in Santiago… Visiting “La Chascona” was the best one. And also Illapu rocks! So thank you for a very nice representation of my country…. But i also agree with PAVANZYL, you have to go to the south!

PS. I was in Barrio Bellavista when the quake came! :S

  17. TheExpeditioner says:

@RodrigoXPJets What can I say, I’m a big fan of Illapu.

  18. RodrigoXPJets says:

Nice job with the documentary! Very nice and fun to watch. I think you covered a lot considering the the playtime. One downside is obviously the music, which could be compared at to Chileans doing a documentary about New York playing some redneck banjo music in the background :)

    Definately subscribing though!

You Missed the best parts of Santiago, you should go to las Condes , Perovidencia Etc and Vina del mar, only an hour away (pacific Ocean)

  20. TheExpeditioner says:

Ha, I know, I only had a few days. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to check it out!

  21. PAVANZYL says:

A pitty you missed all the good parts of Chile! Santiago no es Chile! Come south and be amazed!

  22. crlk says:

    Aguante el Cono Sur.
